Community Outreach and Training Idea: Dementia Friends Sessions
Dementia Friendly America (DFA) and Dementia Friends USA, initiatives aimed at fostering dementia-friendly communities nationwide. DFA is a locally driven model that provides resources and support to communities across sectors to become informed, safe, and respectful of individuals with dementia, their families, and caregivers. It builds upon the Act on Alzheimer’s model from Minnesota and offers tools such as sector guides and community toolkits. Dementia Friends USA, launched in January 2017, focuses on individual impact, encouraging people to become “Dementia Friends” through online resources or in-person sessions. The overall goal is to create communities where people with dementia can live and thrive with dignity and respect by leveraging partnerships across various community sectors.
